Do you believe in Man-Made Global warming? Well, you shouldn't!
Why?
You don't need a huge think-tank to see through the propaganda. Here's how to figure out the truth for yourself:
1. Have you looked at your own outside thermometer? Record lows and snow storms abound.
2. Seventh grade physics shows that CO2's molecular weight makes it very heavy. It can't rise high enough to cause the greenhouse effect.
Yes, there is a greenhouse effect, but it's mostly caused by water vapor! H2O is much lighter than CO2.
3. College freshman statistics will show you that the error rate in temperature samples used is greater than the claimed temperature rise.
4. Glaciers in Greenland have recently been shown to be getting thcker, not thinner. Same with antarctic ice, which is never mentioned by warming alarmists.
5. Stories of polar bears declining are lies, according to our government's own figures.
6. CO2 is plant food! When the earth was young, there was very little free oxygen. It was poisonous to the few life forms here (primitive bacteria and plants). It increased to today's levels partly as exhaust from plants and partly from a few comets "visiting."
7. Clearing of forests happens only where governments own the forest. Private ownership of forests results in cyclical growing and cutting. They don't waste the economic value of their own land! Take a look at the huge forests in Georgia and Florida, owned by Weyerhauser & other lumber companies.
8. Sunspot activity is in a cycle in which it reduces warming radiation from the sun. This is actually causing a cooling cycle.
9. What about recent record cold temperatures and snow storms?
10. Why is it that the big scares always mean big profits for companies connected to governments. E.g. GE owns NBC, which is scaring us. But GE makes big dollars from sales of generators, nuclear, windmills, and solar to governments.
11. Those who want US to completely change our lives are immune. How about Al Gore making his millions - driving his SUVs, owning several energy inefficient HOMES, plura. He tells us to stop using gas, while he is private-jetting around to give big money speeches?
12. We're supposed to forget similar false fears. Many of the same companies made big money off the "ozone layer" scam. Remember that one? It has also proven false. But, the media which scared us about it has remained silent. Instead, they come up with a new scary theory.
13. About 7 years ago, the same government-connected scientists and insiders were trying to scare us with the coming ice age. Remember that?
14. Volcanoes and the ocean are by FAR larger sources of CO2 and other "greenhouse" gases. Many, many, many multiples of the amounts we exhaust.
15. NASA was actually caught faking "warming" data. They simply copied September temperatures and submitted the same figures for October. They then claimed October was the hottest it's been in decades.
If "Global Warming" is true, why fudge figures? I am very skeptical when someone - especially a government insider - is trying to scare me and grab my wallet at the same time.
Fear is used to turn off the logical part of your brain. It makes you an easier "mark."
So, beware of the scare! Don't believe "officials" just because of their title.
Just think for yourself! Please!

The interesting thing about Al Gore and Bill Clinton, was they didn't start their big green campaigns until well after they had their investments in place in the companies that would benefit most from their endorsements. I don't get into the global warming debate for the simple fact that I know that reality is just the collective illusion. So I stay away from it. But I am a follow the money kind of guy and all those guys money went green before their mouths did. Take it for what its worth.

I am terribly interested in where a person who thinks only for him/herself aquires Data on global warming without consulting someone or something else.
Global warming could very well have been considered a legitimate concern by reputable scientists before CNN got involved. I can hardly blame someone for doubting the evidence of global warming as it has been chopped up and slanted in so many ways to provide a great deal of confusion for the masses.
Believe what you will, as always, but I warn you to be prepared to back up claims such as "Volcanoes and the ocean are by FAR larger sources of CO2 and other "greenhouse" gases. Many, many, many multiples of the amounts we exhaust." lest you become guilty of that which you speak against.

Sorry KutWrite, but you have made a few mistakes there -
The greenhouse effect is a little bit of a misnomer - CO2 does not make a physical barrier, like a garden greenhouse, but retains heat at the earth's surface. It does not need to rise high into the atmosphere.
Currently, the ocean is a net sink for CO2 - it absorbs much more than it releases. This is slowly acidifying the oceans and changing ecosystems. Volcanoes release about 100 million tons per year - humanity contributes much more than that.
Global Warming is not the same as climate change. There are different climate patterns eg unseasonal snow and rain, but the overall temperature is rising. No scientist disagrees upon that, whichever 'side' of the debate they are on.
The question is how much of the temperature rise is generated by humanity and how much is due to natural fluctuations - that is a completely different issue. The temperature is rising, but the data does not make it clear whether this is an effect of CO2 emissions or a normal warming of the Earth after an Ice-Age period.
Personally, after reviewing the evidence, I believe that humanity is having an effect, but I certainly would not gamble on it! Maybe 70:30 convinced, if you know what I mean.
As Scott says, the media and propaganda have destroyed any chance of reasonable debate. As a scientist, I hate the fact that BOTH sides of the argument manipulate research. I detest Al Gore as much as you - people like him have politicised the debate beyond recognition. I walked out of 'An Inconvenient Truth' after about 15 minutes!
To again repeat Scott, it is difficult enough to find solid research even when you know what you are looking for. To find a good source on the Internet is virtually impossible, so believe nothing that you read online. The real answer, as stated above, is that nobody is sure one way or another. I certainly count myself amongst that number.
I have seen people totally trust anything and everything they read online and tell those things to be the absolute truth. Even change their lives because of it. Kinda scary. My grandmother always told me not to believe 99% of what I hear and 95% of what I see. She wanted me to research things myself I guess. She was not easily persuaded by gossip etc. I wonder if that's why she was as peace so much of her life.
Global warming is the crises which gives the government more control over the activities of the individual. It's a sham.

Rob - Global Warming is happening, but nobody is certain whether it is a natural process or man-made. The data could be read both ways.
Just because the politicians have got hold of it does not make it a sham. The answer is that nobody is certain.

Good point, ASU. Somebody is making a lot of money out of the whole thing, and that is so immoral. The problem is that we are so conditioned to listen to the culture of celebrity that the science gets ignored.

There is no global warming! Man didn't cause the ice age and if the temperature has went up .8 degrees in the last hundred years it is just a statistical fluctuation.
I personally think that we do not have nearly the accurate amount of evidence over the past 100-1000 years to really make a stab as to if the CO2 we're putting out is causing global warming. I was actually hoping that Sufidreamer would have an argument as to why CO2 hurts nature if its plants "air" so to speak. (Yes, I know that to much of a good thing is quite the opposite but when is to much to much). I understand your viewpoints on the matter Sufidreamer but I am currently 90/10 against global warming, going also with the corruption involved. Figures can be corrupted and since I havent been keeping track myself, I cant really trust people after the corruption that has occured. I have to agree with this hub. Man Made Global Warming is a hoax. And from numbers that are available in science books and are common knowledge the CO2 that is contributed by man is only 3% of the overall CO2 in the atmosphere, and in reality it isn't even a fact that it is the C02 that causes global warming becasue this hasn't been proven. Even on the IPCC assessment reports they state that 'Global Warming is very likely anthropogenic (man made)' They cannot say it is definitey man made because they cannot fully prove it. Yet, all these world governments are trying to change policies based on this assessment and affect economies and people's lives and it isn't even proven.
What's worse is that most of the 'scientists' that make up the IPCC panel are not even scientists, much less climate scientists, they are 'concerned citizens' that represent their nations. Man made global warming is only a theory based on numbers that don't add up; there are many more theories out there that are more plausible, but are not in energy indiustries' or governments' interest, because they are natural, so there's no government interevention that will supposedly prevent them. It's all about money and control.
And as it now turns out, according to NASA satellite findings and global weather (NOAA) reports it seems that there has been a cooling trend in the last few years and that the hottest temperatures in the last 100 years were in the years 1930's and 1990's respectively. Since '98 temperatures did not rise and actually seem to be declining. This would coincide with the sun cycle theory, which states that we are in a low sun activity cycle.
One way to control the masses is through alarmist hysteria but hopefully most people are smart enough tto not fall for this scam.

Did you all see that NASA finally admitted <faking> the data for November? They had said it was the hottest one on record. Later someone blew the whistle that they just copied October's temps and used them for November.

I also wrote a hub about the lies being told regarding man-made global warming. The UN document that received the Nobel Prize was written by 52 so-called scientists. Now hundreds of scientist have publicly disagreed with the UN's findings. Today an article on Yahoo states that global warming is far more dire than even the UN stated. The interesting thing about the article is the only person quoted in the article is one of the co-authors of the UN documents. I think they know we are on to them.The scare aren't working, there are far too many scientists speaking out. Hey Al I was born at night, but not last night.

CO2 does not harm the plants, and may actually enhance growth rates, although we may have to experiment with different crops to suit changing climates.
A couple of comments above nailed it on the head. Global warming and climate change IS happening. That is something agreed upon by 99% of scientists on both 'sides.' The argument is whether it is as a result of man-made emissions or not.
I personally believe that the real issue is often ignored. Global warming, climate change and rising sea-levels are inevitable, yet nobody seems to address this. Coastal communities and low-lying countries need to start preparing now, or Katerina will seem like small-fry. Sadly, a lot of the money spent on research into stopping man-made emissions should be diverted into preparing these communities for the rising sea-levels.
If the stimulus bill includes public works, improving the sea-defences around New Orleans would be a good start!

well guys this is just the ideas of a grade 10 at school but really, if any thing we do contribute. not all, but we do face it, yes the earth does fluctuate quite a bit. but we also have to think, we are not killing the earth as every one says on the new2s and what not but we are killing our self, fact we do realese carbon dixoide into the atmosfear but thats not what i am talking about i mean we have become so compeled to produce that we take many other countrys for granted like mexico. the air there is almost hazordes for humans to breath. but also guys one of two things may and probly will happen 1. we kill our selfs off or 2 we get wiped out like the dinosores. because in the end we have been here for idn i think from what they teach me in school over 5000 years but the earth has been here for billions of years. we are not the end of the earth we are the end of our self. then somthing else more inteligent will take over after us its the circle of life. all we are doing is messing our selfs over more come on government yes or no do somthing or not

I found this site trying to get information on "GLOBAL WARMING." Im trying to get all three sides of this argument. Yes there are three sides. One is ,the easy one, for global warming meaning they agree with the gases destroying the ozone. Number two is this page which says that the gases have nothing to do with that and that its the water vapor. I think they both have truth to them but they also have lies in them which give their AGENDA more backing. And the third is the one I agree with is that the earth changes temperatures from time to time and is not drastically changing either way. Its called Summer and Winter and most scientists are trying to make it worse than it is.
You have to be the most naive person in the world to believe that snow is a tell all sign that global warming does not exist. In fact, when there is more snow, that means there is more water that had evaporated into the atmosphere, which is a direct cause of global warming. More rain and snow in some places, and drought in others.

A few comments.
First, the mistake that affected the GISS temperature data was just a clerical error, not any kind of "fakery." (After all, if they wanted to "fake it," they would have made up new numbers, not re-posted the old ones.) And the numbers affected were only preliminary, meaning they hadn't been through the full data quality control process yet.
Second, the science warning us about the danger of excessive greenhouse gas emissions is much wider, deeper, and more mature than most people imagine. (For instance, see my hub on "The Science of global warming in the age of Napoleon," or its successors.) Better yet, check out Spencer Weart's site, "The Discovery of Global Warming." It's beautifully done, and tells the scientific story in a very comprehensive, yet understandable, way.)
Third, while it's true that Carbon Dioxide is "heavier" than water vapor, the difference isn't great enough to make it sink as you suggest. It's like a complicated "shooter"-type drink--the ingredients have slightly different densities, so if they are poured carefully enough, you can have eye-pleasing layers of differently-colored liquids. But a slight shake or stir can destroy the layering in an instant.
Similarly, normal winds are more than enough to thoroughly mix all atmospheric gases--luckily, since we need normal levels of the greenhouse effect to have a planet warm enough to live on. It's also lucky because oxygen and nitrogen have different molecular weights, too--so if the atmospheric gases stratified as you suggest, we'd be breathing pure oxygen and having terrible troubles with fires breaking out constantly.
More generally, thinking for yourself also involves seeking out and evaluating the available information. (And much of what you present in this hub is not, I'm sad to say, correct.) For example, to verify my last paragraph, Google "molecular weight" followed by the names of various atmospheric gases. For good measure, Google the phrase "well-mixed gases," too.

If Global Warming is fake, what would be anyone's motive for trying to convince you that it's real? Do you think top scientists and government officials would spread lies for fun?

This website is such bullshit. Yes, the world is in a cooling cycle, but all that's doing is masking the effects of global warming. If not for that cycle the effects of global warming would be extremely catastrophic. Even with global cooling negating the effects of global warming, the 10 hottest years in HISTORY have been in the last 13 years. Watch "An Inconvenient Truth" and stop trying to make yourself feel safer from the world overheating by discrediting the scientists all over the world who have been warning us about it for years. You have no proof whatsoever that all the government data is fake. C02 levels are higher than they ever have been for millions of years almost by double, and guess when they started to rise? Right at the beginning of the industrial age, when humans started burning coal and gasoline rapidly. Here's some research, with how much CO2 we release from driving and coal can you honestly say that you thought there would be no consequence. On top of that there's there release of SO2, NOx, Mercury into the atmosphere. Even if we cant agree on global warming can we agree that we need to see the phasing out of Coal and Petroleum use.

I don't know whether or not global warming exists (it's too much of a controversy to tell without doing the research yourself in my opinion), but for all I can tell, it's either a scam or the mysterious truth.

Global warming has to do with GLOBAL AVERAGE RISING temperature, which is about 2 degrees a year. So you might get a record low in your redneck town, but in most places the temperature is average or above average.

While I agree with the point made in this article, there are some things that need to be clarified. Point #2 is not entirely true, because because the molecular weight of a gas does not determine its place in the atmosphere. Gases, given a reasonable amount of time, will always mix completely and perfectly. Thus, as Sufidreamer said, CO2 does not actually act as a barrier like a normal greenhouse. Also, in response Mike's question, lying is part of politics.

1 billion vehicles operate on the planet. aside from this, think of all the greenhouse gas emitting energy plants and factories are in full operation. how can you deny any man made factors?
Next time you watch Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth, Watch the graphs he uses.
He uses the infamous hockey stick graph which was proven to be false.
If you compare his two charts (CO2 levels and Temperature levels) when placed on top of eachother there is an 800 year lag between Co2 and Temperature CO2 being the one that lags, so basically Temperature effects Co2 not the other way around.
If you look back through history you will see a similar rise in temperature called the Mid evil warm period and right after that there was a little ice age.
Co2 forms only a little protion of greenhouse gas and less then 1% of greenhouse gas is made by humans, most of it is from oceans, plants and volcanoes. Besides that, water vapor is by far the most important greenhouse gas.
And if I were to go on and explain why Global Warming is FAKE I would be typing for hours.

I read the article, I've read the comments. How many of you have actually done any independent research on Global Warming? How many have spent years studying the effects humans have had on the environment? I'm guessing none at all, but you're so ready to dismiss people who have. Just because people might be trying to scam and make money out of something does not mean it is fake, just means they've got a business degree. If you are a skeptic on Climate Change or Global Warming, go find someone who is working in the field and talk to them instead of setting back and trying to work out some conspiracy theory.

I believe in man-made global warming and that it's going to be a slow humongous catastrophe, and you people honestly think that in order to keep my credibility (yes, I know someone like me has none in your eyes), I should never, under any circumstances, make any money from providing carbon neutral alternatives to fossil-fueled thingies? Al Gore is definitely not carbon neutral as someone mentioned above. If he rides in a jet or uses a car, he is not. He may buy (and sell) carbon offsets, but he certainly doesn't remove a ton of CO2 from the atmosphere after every plane ride, and neither does his car suck in CO2 and fart out rainbows. The western way of life is not carbon neutral, you'd need to be a fully organic, self-sufficient farmer with no machinery or electronics whatsoever in order to reach that state.
Carbon offsets are incredible bullshit, and marketing anything like them should be stopped immediately. THAT is unwarranted money-making off a serious problem.

Yes, indeed plants do tend to be larger when they are grown at higher CO2 concentrations. This CO2 fertilisation effect is well known and is included in models predicting future CO2 concentrations. Though as CO2 concentrations increase it seems lkely that the 'fertilisation' effect will decrease or disappear - a process called 'acclimation'. However, I don't understand how this means that climate change won't happen. Plants won't absorb all the CO2 that is released, and there are lots of uncertainties about what impact a CO2 enriched atmosphere will have on platn communities because some plants will respond differntly to other plants (e.g the difference between C4, C3 and CAM plants).

No they don't. This is just plain wrong. Inputs of CO2 into the atmosphere as a result of human activities is by far the largest net contributer to increases in atmospheric CO2 (mainly vegetation change and the burning of fossil fuels).

Now that is hilarious. Yes CO2 is heavier than air. In an unventilated room CO2 will settle near the ground. This also happens in some natural environments where there are naturally occuring CO2 vents. However, there are many forces in the natural environment that can mix CO2 into the air. Wind, being the main one. As a result the Co2 in the atmosphere is well mixed with other atmospheric components.
The Mauna Loa volcano is 4000 m above sea level. If you were correct the CO2 concentrations here would be significantly lower than at sea level. CO2 concentrations have been measured continuously on Mauna Loa for 50 years, using Infra Red Gas Analysers. The concentrations are the same as at sea level. I'm trying to write a paper on whether or not i can find more proof for one rather then the other, whether or not there are more facts for or against global warming. so far, i have found atleast 10 sites that give me loads of information telling me global warming is a reality, but none of the sites for the idea of global warming correlate. All of them give me information telling me how much the planet has heated but every one gives me different information, and all are run by the government and scientists. This forum has given me many good thoughts about how most of the information the sites have given me are lies and make me want to believe that global warming really is fake. Also, there were reports that thousands of emails between climatologists were intercepted from their databases explaining how they fudge numbers and try to make their lies match up because they havent gotten anywhere trying to find out reasons to give us to make us believe that there is global warming. The earth has a cycle of heating and cooling, but just because climatologists record only when the earth is in a heating cycle, doesnt mean we are all doomed to an inevitable death.
That is my thought and understanding on the whole debate, and i also just wanted to point out that you shouldnt read the comments on this page of people trying to put off that their scientists giving you all of this phony information and telling you we'r stupid for not believing in global warming and mispelling every other word then calling you assholes at the end, not very scientist like...
Has anyone here heard of a very recent interesting thing called ClimateGate? Google it and check it out. A university in the UK had its network hacked. Thousands of emails and documents from the leading man-made global warming scientists and promoters have gotten out into the public. Emails between these guys talk of them purposely hiding global temperature DECLINE! Deleting data sets, Coding charts to ignore low temperature values so they don't appear in the graphs they show everyone, making data sets near impossible to read so no one sees the drop in temperatures, deleting emails and documents when they're forced to reveal their info, refusing to show their real data to anyone outside their trusted associates, contacting other universities to demand that certain scientists that disagree with them have their degrees stripped, getting science journals and magazines to ban all scietific articles by specific scientists that disagree with global warming, using tricks to manipulate data, expressing worry over the very obvious drop in temperatures recently really which could cause a big problem since their prescious computer climate models expected nothing but hotter temperature averages. On and on it goes. These are the top scientists that everyone constantly quotes as scientific proof of man-made global warming, and they've been messing with the data for over a decade in order to prove their point. They've even hijacked the entire peer review system in order to eliminate opponents of man-made global warming! This stuff is their own words, their own team effort run behind the scenes out of sight. The emails and documents have been proven completely authentic by many sources and the news media (which is doing an all out blitz on ignoring and spinning this stuff as unimportant). Look it up for yourself!
PS. Though I believe climate change caused by mankind is mostly bogus, that doesn't mean we should feel free to rip apart the environment like it's a wrapped birthday president. I recycle a lot and try to waste as little as I can without having to go crazy over doing so. I do this because I want a beautiful environment. Scuba steve - you need to critically analyse your sources of information. Just looking at a load of websites isn't a good way of getting information about something as complex as global climate change. You need to consider how acurate the informtion on the websites is likely to be.
The Earths climate system is hugely complex. To understand it requires a scientific approach - observation, model, hypothesis, predictions, test. This requires scientists - this is unavoidable. In the same way that understanding how the human body works also requires scientists. So to disregard something becsuse it is written by scientists is disregarding the only source of information that might ive you the answer you need. If the website you are looknig at is by non scientists then where do they get their information from? How do they know that what they are saying is true? You can't just guess at this stuff, or go by your gut feeling. Here are two authoritative sources of inofmraiton to start you off. The IPCC physical science basis report is the most comprehensive summary of our understanding of climate change science - up to 2007. It is written by scientists based on the scientific literature. This is based on things tht people have actually gone out and measured. By all means criticise the original data, or the synthesis but you have to justify those criticisms of they are to hold any weight. This takes a high level of skill, training and knowledge. You would at least need a PhD and probably several years post doctoral experience to reach the elve of understanding required to contribute to this document.

The second source is a review paper written by a Professor at Edinburgh University. It is published in a reputable academic journal which is not government funded. It will have been reviewed by at least two experts, who will check that no claims are made that cant be substantiated.

As for the stolen emails. They are a red herring. There is NOTHING in them that shows any evidence that any data was faked. THe only thing that the theives could find - in 10 years of emails was a reference to using a 'trick' with some data. Well, that's hardly proof. The 'trick' refers to a clever way of doing something. In any case science is, by definition, self checking. Any fraud will eventually be found out - not by stealing emails - through other scientists trying to replicate the study and finding that they get different results. This happens occasionally and results in papers being rettracted. The system is pretty robust. Don't waste your time down this blind alley. Loo at the science yourself and make up your own mind.

Anna, thank you for bringing up one of the idiotic arguments I also saw about it being cold and snowing. Are you really going to use "its cold right now" and give us pictures of snow as your argument? Than you a grade schooler. One of the biggest issues with Global Warming is that it is not only causing a raise in temperature, but a change in the timing of temperature raise, as well as the severity of temperature fluctuation. Meaning its getting hotter earlier and causing seasons to become slightly altered. Thus, animals and plant species are no longer birthing at the same time in Spring and many birds in some areas are dying because chicks are hatching earlier and the food they feed on, like caterpillars, are not hatching till weeks later.
In the end you just have to put aside the judgment and calculations of media and scientist and just acknowledge the fact that we are blessed with an amazingly beautiful, life sustaining planet, yet all we do is drain in of life and shit on it.

Its not so much "global warming" but "global climate change" yes the earths avg. temp. is rising but not all areas are getting hotter, rather their climats will change greatly(hotter dryer, wetter colder etc). look at any graph with information about Co2, So2, CfC's, particulats etc any of the causes of g.c.c there is a direct correlation between when the human population began to boom/industraial revolution and then these "gases" started to increase. These gases intern trap more heat intern melting the earths glaciers (fact earths glaciers are melting, they are not getting thicker who ever you were that said this) messing up the weather patterns and ocean currents which WILL effect us. I'd like to question the fact about water vapor being a much bigger factor in global warming (just trying to be rational, correct me if you must).
If like some people say that global warming is mainly caused by water vapor, then there must have been a increase in the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere for it to become a factor in global warming since vapor has been present in the atmosphere for millions of years. But why is there an increase in the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere? I can only think of two reasons. One, because of the decrease in the atmospheric pressure (check the pressur of vapor on a liquid in a closed system for further reference). Two (the most likely in my opinion), the increase in temperature.
So if reason #2 is the cause for increased amounts of water vapor in the atmosphere, what caused the increase in temperature? This is where I think the CO2 plays his nasty role.

If CO2 produced by humanity is such a small percentage of the total present CO2, then it still means that we contribute to a artificial increase in the total amount of CO2 present in the atmosphere. Small increase or not, a change in the balance can still bring bing changes. A little change in a delicate balance can bring about enormous changes. It's like giving a little push to a boulder in static balance on the tip of a needle.

every scientist can agree the Earth id warming, the debate is how much and where exactly. obviously different parts of the world have differnt weather patterns, seasons and such, but that doesnt mean global warming isnt happening, hence the term GLOBAL, i.e. overall, average. etc. ya it might snow a lot, but that is because its winter and it will snow where it usually snow. what most of you people dont understand is how complex the climate system of the earth is. no wonder there is a lot of contreversy, scientists are not perfect human beings like calculators who give the right answer to some simple math, there is always error. but thats why theres stats! in conclusion, the eaarth is warming, but global processes are very, very, very slow!!!! so obviously you are not going to see any immediate effects. and its not just CO2, even if it makes up "3%" of the atmosphere, which isnt true, it probably makes up less than 1%, that doesnt mean it cant have an effect! for example, do you need vitamins in as large quantities as you might need food and water? no, but they are still important.
so CO2 is making a difference, but the warming caused by CO2 may have just initiated the global warming process, and "activates" other positive feedback cycles that will furhter warm the Earth. for example, places liek greenland will warm the most, because as snow melts, less heat is reflected, and therefore less heat is reflected, so more snow melts. places like mountain tops and glaciers help keep the global temperature down by reflecting heat and light. but if the atmosphere gets full og greenhouse gases, more than before or "usual", then more heat gets trapped, metls the snow. get it? another example is the permafrost melting in Northern coutnries. when the permafrost layer gets deeper, so more of the topsoil does not freeze, more biobological activity can occur which releases methanem, another big impacting greenhouse gas.
yes plants take up CO2, but its not just CO2 they need. they also need water and sunlight. do you think that if the world warms up even more, more water is evaporated, places get drier, plants dont have enough water, and so they stop growing, taking up as much CO2. hows that for logic?
scientists do not directly report to the media, the media says shit only to interest the people. thats why there is so much controversy, they want to shock poeple and get us riled up so we'll listen. and governments only have the corporation's heart at interest. corporations dont care what they do to third world countries or even poeple of first world countries, and especially no the environment. they just want their pockets to grow, so that no matter what happens, they always have the best of the best because they will have the money for it, and people can get desperate, doing anything for money.

OISM does no research, offers no lectures; on the other hand, it is funded by such companies as ExxonMobile, and had such people as Dr Geri Halliwell signing their petition against global warming.
Looks like a trustworthy source, fair and balanced, yeah. I believe that man made global warming is hoax. There are many holes in that theory and also. In the wws there was a temprature increase not sure how much bu there was an increase. In the 1950 Industrialization got more popular and more fossil fuels where used BUT 1950- 1975 the temprature almost went down by 2 degrees!! water vapor is much stronger than Co2 there is also the sun shedding or something and its been recoreded that it is getting brighter and brighterand there is also the magnetical field between north and south pole but im not sure how that really worked xD

Websites that promote conspiracy theories are not evidence. Everyone should take the time to examine the actual evidence - peer-reviewed reputable journals and the IPCC report. NOT papers published by cardiologists or popular science books published by a diabetes expert. To have a fully informed opinion, go out of your way to find things that fully question your own opinion. Creationist? Try and read about evolution as much as you can to actually understand it before slating it. Atheist? Find out what religious people have to say. I think that lots of people who commented on this page need to learn to debate effectively and rationally, and consider what constitutes evidence, the skills required to evaluate the evidence, and to not buy into conspiracy theories just because taxes rise and you hate the government. And another thing, scientists are NOT the government. Science does research which aims to be the most unbiased source of information that we have. It is not based on whether somebody 'thinks' something is right, or if something 'seems' wrong. It is based on actual figures and statistics. This research is being conducted because there's a serious global issue and it is quite concerning for all of us. The science is trying to help us. If we don't need it and it is demonstrably false then the scientists will soon give up on the research or their careers and research grants will be in jeopardy, but this is clearly not the case with global warming. It's hard to understand how to evaluate things effectively and which sources to trust, but don't throw theories out of the window because you don't like the consequences they give or you don't understand them. Do yourself a favour and learn to be rational, how to debate effectively and analyse sources.

Record low temperature occur because the warming of the ocean changes the ocean currents which change the climate of an area. Wind currents are also changed because of warming. This means climates of many places will change. You only mentioned the snowstorms but I noticed how you conviniently left out that there are a record number of droughts, forest fires and heat waves.In Europe a few years a ago, a heat wave killed 16 000 people.

1. If we are discussing the best type of fertilizer to use for growing potatoes in Idaho, opinions about the color of mailboxes in Miami aren't terribly relevant. Your first point is an attempt to equate global CLIMATE with local weather. Weather and climate are 80th cousins 10 times removed.

Even assuming that the weight of CO2 were slightly releveant to the discussion (and it isn't, concentrations at 20,000 ft as a percent of atmospheric constitution are about the same as they are at sea level), that isn't the point. The problem is that CO2 is effectively tranparent to both incoming UV and infrared, but more or less opaque to those raditions as they are reflected out. In other words, you may wish to go back and brush up a bit on your 7th grade physics, although I suggest a considerably deeper exploration into the question for better comprehension.

4. I'm not sure where you are getting those "facts" but if you want accurate ones, you might wish to check the data bases from NASA and NOAA which tell a very different story.
5. Our own government really doesn't keep a lot of statistics on polar bears, but here is the honest scoop: Most of the world's polar bears exist in essentially 3 population groups. Of those, only one is known with certainty to be increasing. That is the group that mostly lives around the Hudson Bay area, which was very nearly hunted to extinction early in the 20th century. The Canadian government stepped in and protected them, which has led to a slow rebound of the population. What is happening with the other two groups is not well documented, but it is well known that body weights of well studied individuals in the Alaska group are declining alarmingly.
6. Plants utilize CO2 and are a natural sink. It is NOT a plant exhaust. We are deforesting the planet at a rate of about an acre a second, and there has been a significant decline in the oceans' phytoplanktion populations over the past few decades. In essence, the planet's most important sinks for CO2 are being destroyed (by humans) at precisely the time we are dumping more CO2 into the atmosphere and need those natural sinks.
7. The problem is that must of the old growth forests on American soil are in National Forests where irresponsible management (by private companies) is rampant.
8. The sunspot cycle is roughly years long. While various solar cycles DO influence earth's climate, the sunspot cycle is not that important.

Again, I don't have the first clue what you are driving aat here, but understand one thing: Even if you don't personally agree with the complex science behind global climate change, petroleum is a finite and dwindling resource. Alternative energy sources must be developed, and it isn't going to get cheaper. Climate issues aside, in the coming decades we are facing serious energy issues we can't drill our way out of.

14. Untrue. Typically, volcanos are not a huge source of CO2 (although they can be in certain instances, and that doesn't help the situation). They certainly have short term effects on climate for various reasons, but you need to brush up on your facts.

It is truly an honor to have in our midst a 16 year-old who is smarter than the vast majority of degreed Climatologists, Planetary Astronomers and scientists from a wide variety of other fields who are noting the ongoing effects of global climate change and have been doing so in scientific journals for decades. When I was 16, I similarly knew everything. Alas, we grow older and our genius escapes us, particularly when our horizons broaden, and, we learn for example, that we do have a few billion years of data about what earth's climate equalibriums are like to draw from. We also find that typically, climate change is a phenomenon that plays itself out over time periods of tens of thousands of years, and not the decades we are witnessing now.

Education systems, from my experiences, are taking the side of Al Gore and other global warming opinions. This education is almost forcing their opinions on this matter down our throats.
I have lived many places, from east to west coast in America. I can remember that when I was in eighth grade, we were taken to see a climate researcher for a field trip. The researcher, in response to our questions, gave no details to support her opinions. She fudged over the whole thing.
As a freshmen in high school, we watched Al Gore's "Inconvenient truth" in what was supposed to be a class with no stance on global warming. They said they were just viewing the man's opinion on it. Did they show us a video from the other point of view? No.
With nothing to argue against them with, the students are left with nothing but what may be and probably is a whole bunch of false data and predictions. They are doing this so they can eventually shut out skeptics. Therefore, I find it important that we do not believe what these scientists are forcing down our throats.

Global warming is occurring any one who denies this has either been poisoned by all the B.S that gets put out by unreliable sources who deliberately try to confuse people throwing out all kinds of misinformation, half truths, oversimplifications, and plain falsehoods and or has not seen the research data coming from the analysis of rock temperatures, air temperature, ice core molecule compositions, shell fossils in the ocean, tree ring analysus, ocean temperature and more that I cannot recall or am not yet aware of.
All of these data show the exact same thing: the temperature since 1850 and even more particularly since 1950 has risen at a rate more rapid the ever before in the measurable history of the planet! 1.8 fahrenheit increase has been measured and were on path to increase at least that amount to potentially 10 degrees celsius by 2100 which is quite a bit more in degress fahrenheit.
Don't let the greedy fossil fuel companies ruin our planet for our current and future generations! They are doing everything they can to confuse the largely scientifically illiterate public and delay what in the end will be changes in how we live our lives and what we use as energy or as a means of transportation. When will wake up? WE need to NOW before its too late. Read real research data don't listen to the TV, RADIO or INTERNET, go check it out for yourself. Don't base it on your observations of just your local community, the effects are global and are a long term effect there is always yearly variation in temperature. It would never be that each year one place on the planet experiences the exact same temperatures any amount of years in a row. Your city might make up maybe 0.001% of the planet! The GLOBAL average which is taken not only from on land but also over and in the sea is added up and averaged each year and that is how the warming is observed. If you're in a region experiencing more cooling then that means there are regions in the world that are warming even more then the average to make up for the cooling in your region because when you add up all temperatures around the world, the average is an increase in temperature. In 1950 alone we have passed the mid evil period warming and have experienced the most rapid acceleration ever seen with the steepest increase occuring now and continuing to rise.
Observe what is happening to ice on our planet, it is the most unambiguous indicator. As professor pollack said, the ice doesn't ask questions, present arguments, doesn't read newspapers, listens to no debates, has no ideology or political baggage, the ice well it simply crosses over from solid to liquid, it just melts.
The most alarming of all is even if we were to halt everything we contribute to the warming, it would still continue to occur for long enough periods to have climate altering effects.
C02 and other gases cause warming as follows: Sun rays from the sun reach our planet and some rays are filtered out or reflected before they reach the earth's surface either by the ozone layer, clouds and particles suspended in the atmosphere. In particular harmful radiation (ultra-violet) gets stopped by the ozone and without this harmful radiation that causes our skin to burn, plants to die and cancer to develop in addition to cataracts in the eyes of living organisms. If ultra violet radiation reached the surface it would destroy all life.
So some sun radiation reaches the surface and now some of it will be reflected back, some of it will be absorbed by the planet. The radiation from the sun is Shortwave radiation. The planet itself will emit radiation in the form of Long Wave radiation. Both Shortwave and Long Wave radiation are absorbed and reflected back by the ozone layer, C02, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide all of which are produced naturally in the decay of the planet. Without these it would be a cold dessert on our planet. Some radiation leaves the planet but some will not make it out, the gases act like a blanket keeping heat in all around the planet.
The thing is though we are producing massive amounts of radiation increasing the amount of radiation absorbed and increasing the net radiation energy at the surface of our planet. We are crossing over natural amounts of these gasses. We know these things by simple observation of ice that has been frozen for hundreds of thousands of years and in the past 50 years as Ben mentioned above, we have seen the steepest and highest increase of C02 then ever before in earths measurable history. Just as you can see bubbles in ice cubes in your freezer, when you drill into the earth you can find in the ice the amount c02 present so we have very reliable samples of the air over a very long history. C02 and temperature increase is strongly correlated over millions of years going in and out of ice ages. Since 1957 we have monitored c02 directly through instruments.
The midevil warming was limited to a smaller region of the world, the warming we experience today is global and is a higher temperature increase. Ben is correct in that the warming of the mid evil period was surpassed in the 1950s.

I myself am a proponent of global warming, however that doesn't change what should be done. Whether or not global warming exists, there is a good reason to change. We spend so much time disputing it's existence, but the fact is that Global Warming as a whole should be a call to arms. It doesn't seem too bad to recycle or change to renewable resources, for they will benefit us in the long run. That is the true intention of the Global Warming "scheme" people, not money, but change. US Oil Company Donated Millions to Climate Sceptic Groups, Says Greenpeace
Report identifies Koch Industries giving $73m to climate sceptic groups 'spreading inaccurate and misleading information'

A Greenpeace investigation has identified a little-known, privately owned US oil company as the paymaster of global warming sceptics in the US and Europe.
The environmental campaign group accuses Kansas-based Koch Industries, which owns refineries and operates oil pipelines, of funding 35 conservative and libertarian groups, as well as more than 20 congressmen and senators. Between them, Greenpeace says, these groups and individuals have spread misinformation about climate science and led a sustained assault on climate scientists and green alternatives to fossil fuels.

Greenpeace says that Koch Industries donated nearly $48m (£31.8m) to climate opposition groups between 1997-2008. From 2005-2008, it donated $25m to groups opposed to climate change, nearly three times as much as higher-profile funders that time such as oil company ExxonMobil. Koch also spent $5.7m on political campaigns and $37m on direct lobbying to support fossil fuels.
In a hard-hitting report, which appears to confirm environmentalists' suspicions that there is a well-funded opposition to the science of climate change, Greenpeace accuses the funded groups of "spreading inaccurate and misleading information" about climate science and clean energy companies.
"The company's network of lobbyists, former executives and organisations has created a forceful stream of misinformation that Koch-funded entities produce and disseminate. The propaganda is then replicated, repackaged and echoed many times throughout the Koch-funded web of political front groups and thinktanks," said Greenpeace.
"Koch industries is playing a quiet but dominant role in the global warming debate. This private, out-of-sight corporation has become a financial kingpin of climate science denial and clean energy opposition. On repeated occasions organisations funded by Koch foundations have led the assault on climate science and scientists, 'green jobs', renewable energy and climate policy progress," it says.
The groups include many of the best-known conservative thinktanks in the US, like Americans for Prosperity, the Heritage Foundation, the Cato institute, the Manhattan Institute and the Foundation for research on economics and the environment. All have been involved in "spinning" the "climategate" story or are at the forefront of the anti-global warming debate, says Greenpeace.
Koch Industries is a $100bn-a-year conglomerate dominated by petroleum and chemical interests, with operations in nearly 60 countries and 70,000 employees. It owns refineries which process more than 800,000 barrels of crude oil a day in the US, as well as a refinery in Holland. It has held leases on the heavily polluting tar-sand fields of Alberta, Canada and has interests in coal, oil exploration, chemicals, forestry, and pipelines.
The majority of the group's assets are owned and controlled by Charles and David Koch, two of the four sons of the company's founder. They have been identified by Forbes magazine as the joint ninth richest Americans and the 19th richest men in the world, each worth between $14-16bn.
Koch has also contributed money to politicians, the report said, listing 17 Republicans and four Democrats whose campaign funds got more than $10,000from the company.
Greenpeace accuses the Koch companies of having a notorious environmental record. In 2000 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fined Koch industries $30m for its role in 300 oil spills that resulted in more than 3m gallons of crude oil leaking intro ponds, lakes and coastal waters.
"The combination of foundation-funded front groups, big lobbying budgets, political action campaign donations and direct campaign contributions makes Koch Industries and the Koch brothers among the most formidable obstacles to advancing clean energy and climate policy in the US," Greenpeace said.
A spokeswoman for Koch Industries today defended the group's track record on environmental issues. "Koch companies have consistently found innovative and cost-effective ways to ensure sound environmental stewardship and further reduce waste and emissions of greenhouse gases associated with their operations and products," said a statement sent to AFP by Melissa Cohlmia, director of communication. She added: "Based on this experience, we support open, science-based dialogue about climate change and the likely effects of proposed energy policies on the global economy."

Is climate change happening? Of course it is! Haven't you ever heard the expression - "Don't like the weather? Just wait five minutes." Climate changes naturally. The real question is, is mankind making it worse? If so, how much so? Any pollution is bad pollution. So sure, I am almost certain mankind is ruining the earth in that respect. The Bible even says this. (Rev. 11:18).
However, the statistics below do not exactly inspire confidence in the global warming crowd. The average mean temperature change has been about point one degree up in over 100 years of tracking! There is no real proof that the planet will continue to warm. There have been record warm years as far back as the 30s, and near record low years as recent as the 90s. But the key factor here is that we are literally talking about a point one degree mean temperature change in over 100 years. Not exactly an alarming or even unexpected event if you ask me. Certainly not enough to personally attack anyone who doesn't buy into the global warming agenda, and call them uneducated idiots.

Climate change is real, and our climate fluctuates whether we are here or not. But there is no reason to go off half-cocked, based on 100 years of data, which shows only a point one degree mean temperature rise, and scream that the sky is falling, and that we should all stop exhaling, because we're killing the planet.
One thing I know for sure - anytime the mainstream media and the government opens its mouth, they are out to deceive you. Power corrupts. History proves that. Evil is rampant. History proves that as well. Don't be naive and think your government or your favorite TV newsman/woman is out to protect you. Finally, as my last comment, bear in mind that actual recorded temperatures did not begin until the late 1800s, and the first weather satellite did not go live until April 1, 1960. We have only had solid, factual temperature readings for just over 100 years, and have only been able to study our atmosphere from space for just over 50 years. Everything beyond those years is an extrapolation. In other words, an educated guess.

You are correct in saying water vapor impacts global heating much more but it is because water vapor absorbs MUCH more long wave radiation emitted by the earth's albedo--and it absorbs much more than the trace quantities of CO2 in the upper atmosphere. The huge amounts of water vapor has the biggest greenhouse effect for this reason. CO2 has a relatively narrow band of absorption and thus a slight increase in the already small amounts (5-6 ppm) of it will have very limited effects as far as warming is concerned. The real reason for climate change is the perfectly natural oscillations in sun activity which blocks the earth from cosmic rays. Cosmic rays increase water vapor in the amotsphere and thus a lack of them due to our recently active sun means not as much water vapor in the atmosphere, thus no clouds and thus heating.

Just wanted to give give Matthew a short retort: average temperatures can not express global warming as it is. Why? Here is an example: averages are not the perfect indicators from a large range of data; if the gap between the numbers collected are too wide, it renders the "calculating the average" method useless. Calculating the median would give more precise results (though I agree that there are far more complex statistic calculations that are possible, I'm no math speciallist).

" Green power " has a idea connected to it that it needs to replace oil for enviornmental reasons, just look at the name. Sun power or other types of power are hardly better for the enviornment. Some are worth using some are not. Nuclear fussion research is set to be completed in the usa, immense power with a waste product of practicley nothing.
Whether or not you're country was created in world war 2 does'nt matter. You're race would of been hunted down and put in camps. Overpopulation, to put it bluntly. In my opinion if you can't feed you're family dont have one. The earth is not overpopulated either. The earth could easily handle a larger population. We could, if we wanted to, stop using as mutch meat products and instead of using so mutch farmland on feeding cows use it on humans. I don't remember the exact ratio but it takes somewhere around 25 pounds of plant food to produce 1 pound of meat. Except we won't do that, because we don't want to, not because we can't. Call it selfish but we like meat, we can afford it, and i don't feel were under any obligation to feed the rest of the world. When there the ones constantley having children they can't afford or feed.

Every piece of information you have is easily refuted by climate scientists. the only two legitimate climate skeptic arguments are about natural cycles and the earth's magnetic field and you don't even mention them. Al Gore is not a scientist so who cares what he says anyways. He is not making millions either by the way. The truth is even if climate change is not being effected by human produced greenhouse gases, the coal industries get away with cold blooded murder of citizens who live near coal mines. No, we do know whether it's true or not. You should read my earlier post on it. It's been proved that it's not true, any legitimate scientist without political ties will tell you that. People can believe whatever they feel like but it's still a lie, and it needs to be treated as a statement with no back up. Because that's what it is. I went there, much of the things are untrue and the rest has nothing to do with man made global warming. Because it does not exist. He said " tempature lags 600 years behind C02 ". That is just not true, all graphs ever taken show the opposite, including Al Gores own graphs when looked at closely show CO2 increases after tempature increase, not the other way around. Witch shows tempature dictates CO2 levels. Not the other way around. I won't even begin to talk about the other stuff, he has things there like " plants grow in new places " witch is completely abused as a talking point. If the earth did get warmer for a period of time scientist would argue it's the same reason it was hot 100 years ago, 1000 years ago, and 100 thousand years ago, The earth changes on it's own. You're not helping it happen.

A lot of information on both sides on why global warming is real and why it is fake, However I have read enough that I can say for certain that there is nowhere near enough information for scientists to say whether its humans that are causing global warming or if it’s the volcanoes and ocean that’s naturally causing this. It could also be that the sun is going through a normal cycle, and yes media lied and scientists on both sides have fudged their data. We as humans have only been recording data for so long there is no way that we have recorded enough data to know our suns and earths full cycle. This could be because of humans or because natural assurances but I am not officially convinced on either side. I’m 50/50 but what I do know is that we should prepare for the worst, it doesn’t matter if we as humans caused this or not but it does matter if we are prepared for the worst or not. Instead of spending all this money to get rid of fuel omissions why don’t we use the money to prepare ourselves for the worst?

Man made global warming is not supported at all by NASA's or East Anglia's World Annual Mean Temperature data. Note: The cities data were omitted due to the heat island effect. So you get a more honest picture of whether there is anything to it other than hot asphalt.
Also, consider this: If the CO2 has increased 100 ppm since the industrial age began (~140 yrs ago?), and man is putting 4% of it into the atmosphere, where only half of it accumulates, then anthropogenic CO2 is but 2%. It seems then that of the 100ppm CO2 increase, only 2ppm is anthropogenic. It is ludicrous to think that the geenhouse effect (GHE) waits for the CO2 to increase before warming up more when in the presence of such overwhelming amounts of water vapor, a much more potent GHG. Could it be that the GHE is actually maxed out in its absorption of energy and can't warm any further with additional increases in ppm?

I think you should rethink many of the things you wrote, especially the part about saying there are record cold temperatures. Global warming is about CLIMATE change, not weather. Know the difference.

Global warming refers to the increase in average global temperature. The real debate is whether it is caused by humans or not. Either way, we use energy that makes our ecosystem less healthy, that should be what we focus on improving. If we all realize this is an issue that binds us all, we can approach it much more productively.

Did it ever occur to anyone that the world could heat up, and it could still snow? As long as the temp remains below thirty-two, it will snow. However, if you add an increase in water vapor, you will also get more percipitation, which would happen if the earth is heating up. The atmosphere is a gaseous solution, meaning that various molecules of different density are more or less evenly distributed, which is why oxygen (lighter than nitrogen)doesnt rise to the top of the atmosphere, which would cause us to die.... and when u burn hydrocarbons (gas, petroleum, coal) you also create water, hydrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide are the byproducts... And the ocean is a CO2 sink, and so are trees.. But were killing the trees with strip malls and the algae with carbon dioxide, which increases acidification...
But were dead anyway... Solar makes up less than .1 of our power... And wind is a joke... It means as glaciers melt in the summer, you have an increase in overall ocean coverage, and since the oceans absorb sunlight, where snow and ice reflects it (common physics here folks) you will see an INCREASE IN OCEAN SURFACE TEMPERATURE. What does this mean? This means in America for instance, a rise in sea surface temperature will allow for an increase in HURRICANE intensity, for instance, if the Atl ocean was to increase in temp, especially off the coast of NewYork/Conn/NJ, hurricanes which traditionally would dissipate due to a lack of thermal energy will in fact become stronger and will strike a city like NEW YORK for example as a category 3,4, or 5 hurricane. With a storm surge and high winds, a city like NY would have less than 36 hours to evacuate through a few tunnels and a bridge, thats the entire CITY OF NEW YORK and the population of long island. This is nearly impossible and what will happen is the city will be devastated, death would be widespread and resources, water, electricity would be gone. It would be multiple times worse than new orleans. Yea we may not see a planet melt before our eyes, but the entire population will have to adapt to more extreme weather events during EACH SEASON -again due to our orbit and the distance from the sun. THIS IS THE REAL PROBLEM BEHIND global warming and pollution. But its okay, we live in a population that needs to see destruction up front before we act and change. New orleans is a perfect example of that. So lets all call this a hoax until the first Category 4 hurricane destroys NEW YORK city, and then lets say well damn maybe we should do something to stop the warming of the oceans. But by then it will be too late.

Okay first of all , I am totally against the money making scheme they call Global Warming . Which now isn't even called Global Warming because Al gore had been proven wrong by the top scientists in the world, so Al Gore decided to change the name to "Climate Change" and yes the climate has been changing for many many years , scientists expect for some ice caps to melt but in and around 1000 years they predict the ice caps are all coming back and we will be in our new Ice Age. Recently there has been an article published in the paper on fossil fuels and how al gore and green peace say fossil fules are the main cause , well guess what ? University of Calgary had proven Al Gore wrong once again , they discovered that if they stopped everything , cars , factories etc , it would not make one difference to the atmosphere.

I believe there may be global warming, we are definitly between ice ages but I cant deny there are climate changes that are severe enough to be taken notice of and to try to understand. The thing about you guys saying that we are leaning on other countries for our oil is correct. However, here is the reason why we do it. In the process of getting oil you are ruining the land around you. Think of those large pockets of oil under the earth. When someone brings those up there is now air and the land will shift and start slowly falling apart underneath. I don't you or your kids will see the result but think about the long run. And next, there is no way of testing the oil beforehand to see if it is even useable. So they can tear up the land and then find out that they can even use any of the oil. So why do this to our America. Why not let another country ruin their soil instead of us. Another thing is even if we produce our own natural resources we hire companies to do this. After evrything is pulled from the ground it goes into a large pot that the world shares. Therefore, prices will not go down, it won't even budge. All we would be doing is destroying our back yard, our beaches, and our environment. I'm sorry but when I have kids I plan on taking them to a beach to let them have fun, and hiking and if we've destroyed everything and left it devastating then what do we have left. An environment like mars, no oxygen and no food because we've turned our farms into dead zones. I'm eighteen years old and I don't watch the news or listen to the government. Explanation: The CO2 in the air causes extreme temperatures, not literal “warming”
2 Seventh grade physics shows that CO2's molecular weight makes it very heavy. It can't rise high enough to cause the greenhouse effect.
Explanation: well, yes, CO2 is heavy, but there are other gases that combine with CO2 to help it rise. Also, the amount of CO2 piles up on heavier gases, like a ladder, causing it to rise to the ozone layer.
Yes, there is a greenhouse effect, but it's mostly caused by water vapor! H2O is much lighter than CO2.
Explanation: Yes, the greenhouse effect is caused by water, but the CO2 in the air is deteriorating that greenhouse effect, allowing too much heat into the earth

Global warming is real and man made. I guess it´s easier not to admit its happening so nothing must be done or undone. Truth is that if the world follows your thinking the earth would be 4° or 5° celcius degrees warmer (the earth was just 5° degrees colder during the last ice age)

As I see it, Global Warming is a hoax. To my knowledge, this stuff has happend before, and in the end it leads to an Ice-Age. I understand the "Hippie" side of the argument, but the facts are here: Global Warming is FAKE, it's just another government story to gain money for the big-box marts, like Wal-Mart and Home Depot. There is no such thing as Global Warming, only Global Change. The Ice-Caps may melt, but that will provide new oil digging area's for Canada, which could make Canada a super power. Then a small Ice-Age will roll over, and we repeat the cycle again.

What I hate the most is how so many people assume they know more than scientists who do actual research. So many comments say things like, "Woo! This article is so awesome! Honestly, if you think an article with elementary grammar mistakes, no sources whatsoever, and horrible logic is to be trusted, you have... issues.
Think the earth on a geological time scale, humans in the past 100,000 years, how much we've changed the planet, how fast we did it, and then you can see. Why wouldn't there be some effects by cutting down half the rain forest, taking enormous amounts of fossil fuels stored underground for millions of years and releasing into the atmosphere, and becoming the first creature to use giant amounts of energy a day? It's so obvious. Any intelligent unbiased person KNOWS that our planet is undergoing GIANT changes due to all of our amazing lifestyles. We are in a full fledged water crisis yet we still take thirty minute showers. Everyone is turning there head the other way. We all need to understand our environment is starting to bite back. 2.4 million people die a year do to air pollution. Our relationship with our planet is reciprocal because we depend on it's resources for everything in our lives. So the earth...HAD WAY MORE Co2 100 MILLION YEARS BEFORE WE WERE AROUND?? HOLY SHIT!! ((Sarcasm)) CO2 is not truly the biggest factor when it comes to the earths temperature. Try water vapor
3. whether global warming is real or not, we only been recording weather for the past 200 to 300 years. And hit and miss spots in history before that. Although apparently australia has been recording for 40000 years, i am unsure on the truth of that. The point here is, that data is not nearly enough to draw a reputable conclusion on wether or not global warming is actually happening and worsening due to human emissions considering the earths been around for 4.5 billion years.
4. Regardless, the earths constantly changing, and we a small factor on such a grand scale. The earth is a living breathing thing, and unless its destroyed by something larger then itself, it will heal itself and continue its beautiful cycle. So continue driving your SUV's and chopping down the forrest. It essentially doesnt matter. The earth always heals itself

It's funny how some companies that sell generators, solar panels and the like also own media companies that promote global warming. I'm not sure if global warming is real or fake but theres one thing i'm sure of. Some people are making a LOT of money off of this.

Also, it is amazing that the green technologies are criticized for making money. It okay for the coal, oil and gas, and utilities companies to make money (at the expense of the environment) but not companies who are trying to make this a better world.

global warming has been exagerated, but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist. if we carry on, we will ruin the environment. its true we have nothing to worry about right now, but after a while (say, 50-100 years) the world would start to see some dramatic changes (in a very bad way). so scientist exageratted the stories a bit so everyone gets the idea down better. i mean, would anyone respond if scientists told us, "oh, everyone, in about a century, temperature will rise really high and then we'll have a problem to worry about that will be really hard to fix?"

If you ask me, Global Warming is a distractant from a bigger problem. We have seen this many times before by other goverments as well. Grade Seven Physics prove that Co2's molecular weight makes it very heavy. It can't rise enough to cause the greenhouse effect. Yes i do believe that there is a greenhouse effect, but it is mostly from water vapor since h20 is much higher then co2.
NASA was also cought faking "Warming" They simply took Septembers tempatures and submited them into Octobers tempatures claiming that it was the hottest October has been in decades. I also got this evedence from a place here on kutwrite.hubpages.com and they listed there sources. Not saying that everything listed above here is wrong. But I think there should be more evidence that this is right. But I believe that Scientists are cherry picking there data. These sound more like acusations to me. Take your thermomater and record your high's and low's and tell me what you find.

Weather global warming is real or fake, it doesn't matter, our dependence on oil is going to destroy our society either way, unless we get smart, and get smart fast. No one can deny that there is a finite amount of oil and coal on the earth, and we are eating through it a heck of a lot faster than it is being replenished. Add to that the fact that the majority of the earth's oil is locked up in small pockets, which would take more energy to drill than they would give back, and it seems pretty obvious we are in serious trouble. What are we going to do when all of a sudden, the resources that provide around 70% of the world's energy are suddenly gone? Some of you may think that that day is a long way off, but it's likely to happen in the next few decades at current consumption rates. And even if it doesn't, I'm sure your children or grandchildren will be very grateful to you for leaving them a society screaming for a severely depleted resource.
Please tell me where is the source of the data that you based your argument on. Your data has no reliability analysis that would prove that it is scientifically thrust wordy. To your polar bear example: Did you went out and counted them, that you are so sure of the data that you saw, or you just looked up wikipedia. Unfortunately, the internet and the media have absolutely destroyed any sure chance of getting real data about anything. News companies don't want to tell you the truth, they want to get your money! And no internet source is ever reliable, whatever they tell you, which is the first thing teachers tell you in english, IT, history, and just about every other subject that requires research. The only reliable way to get information is through government scientists with real university degrees, such as those at NASA, and yet for some mind-boggleing reason, everyone seems to think that they, the organization that put the first man on the moon, have less credibility than some article on the internet, which sites no sources what so ever, saying "look, it's snowing outside, the government is obviously feeding us lies about a long-term warming trend over hundreds of years".
Global warming is real but is caused by underwater volcanoes which pump more then four times the CO2 then anything humans can hope to compete with.
If you look it up you will find that somewhere in the Artic Circle on the Russia side the peak of the Global Warming happened at the same time a bunch of newly discovered undersea volcanoes where spewing crap.
Then the volcanoes settled down a bit and the warming became more flat then the models predicted which we should've had New York under several inches of water by now.

Most of the warming has actually been in the spring and summer when it's natural for the warmth as the sun is higher and the oceans release the CO2 crap stored.
Don't forget HARRP HOWEVER I believe it's only at beta stage in which they are testing how long they can hold certain weather patterns.
When HARRP is more complete they will see if they can send a Cat 1 hurricane up to Seattle by heating the Pacific Ocean to *feed* the storm.
The HARRP device is not very secretive and is clearly visible on the road if you know where to look. It has very poor security.

Global warming is happening, however, evidence of whether we are causing it or not is very hard to find. The best way to test this would be to do this yourself. If you trust everything you read on the internet you will find that the information will completely contradict themselves. For the average person, this is not a very easy thing to prove or disprove.

This is the natural human response. You are too proud and too afraid to admit something lie global warming is true and you certainly want to blame it on yourself. so you'll toss away the global warming thang and continue on your daily life. The last time it snowed was two or three decades ago. There are reported cases of animals and people going blind and dying from skin cancer in south America due to the gap in the ozone layer. 1. Have you looked at your own outside thermometer? Record lows and snow storms abound.
This is anecdotal evidence, anyone can make a statement like this. Show us some data. Global average temperature is rising, just take a look at the satellite data, its all freely available. Global warming actually destabilizes weather patterns and may cause greater variation in temperature, so some areas will see record lows, but the average is what matters and that is definitely increasing.

2. Seventh grade physics shows that CO2's molecular weight makes it very heavy. It can't rise high enough to cause the greenhouse effect. Yes, there is a greenhouse effect, but it's mostly caused by water vapor! H2O is much lighter than CO2.
This isn't true, CO2 is present throughout the atmosphere. Actually, water is more likely to form a liquid and less gaseous than CO2 due to intermolecular bonding between H20 molecules. Even if it wasn't, the greenhouse effect is caused by CO2 reflecting heat back towards the earth, and can do that at any altitude. H2O vapor does contribute to the greenhouse effect, this is true, although it is not because it is light. One concern scientists have is that a higher global temperature will cause more water to evaporate, contributing even further to the greenhouse effect and creating a positive feedback cycle.

3. College freshman statistics will show you that the error rate in temperature samples used is greater than the claimed temperature rise.

4. Glaciers in Greenland have recently been shown to be getting thcker, not thinner. Same with antarctic ice, which is never mentioned by warming alarmists.
Actually, this is true for Greenland. Like I said, global warming can cause certain local temperatures to drop, but the global average is the important part.
5. Stories of polar bears declining are lies, according to our government's own figures.
This has nothing to do with proving or disproving global warming.
6. CO2 is plant food! When the earth was young, there was very little free oxygen. It was poisonous to the few life forms here (primitive bacteria and plants). It increased to today's levels partly as exhaust from plants and partly from a few comets "visiting."
Again, this has nothing to do with proving global warming. CO2s biological properties don't relate to its heat-trapping ability.
7. Clearing of forests happens only where governments own the forest. Private ownership of forests results in cyclical growing and cutting. They don't waste the economic value of their own land! Take a look at the huge forests in Georgia and Florida, owned by Weyerhauser & other lumber companies.
Tree population is not related to proving or disproving global warming.
8. Sunspot activity is in a cycle in which it reduces warming radiation from the sun. This is actually causing a cooling cycle.
See my source for #1. Sunspots do actually slightly affect Earth's climate, but we are not in a cooling cycle.
9. What about recent record cold temperatures and snow storms?
This is the same point as #1, you goofball
10. Why is it that the big scares always mean big profits for companies connected to governments. E.g. GE owns NBC, which is scaring us. But GE makes big dollars from sales of generators, nuclear, windmills, and solar to governments.
Oil companies, car companies, electric companies, the industrial sector, and almost any other business would lose a huge amount of money if the government began regulating CO2 emissions. I wish I had a source for you, but just look at big oil's profits and think about who controls the most money here, and who has the power to influence the media. Most organizations that advocate for global warming are non-profit or government funded, and this is not a coincidence.
11. Those who want US to completely change our lives are immune. How about Al Gore making his millions - driving his SUVs, owning several energy inefficient HOMES, plura. He tells us to stop using gas, while he is private-jetting around to give big money speeches?
Personally attacking Al Gore doesn't help resolve the issue. This doesn't really relate to global warming. Whether or not Al Gore is a hypocrite, the data is still there and most people who advocate for climate policy change do not fly around in private jets.
12. We're supposed to forget similar false fears. Many of the same companies made big money off the "ozone layer" scam. Remember that one? It has also proven false. But, the media which scared us about it has remained silent. Instead, they come up with a new scary theory.
This was not proven false. Ozone depletion was a serious issue, and the world's governments had to put strict regulations on cholroflourocarbon emissions as a result. The hole in the ozone layer is still there, although we actually fixed this issue.

13. About 7 years ago, the same government-connected scientists and insiders were trying to scare us with the coming ice age. Remember that?
That was quite a bit more than 7 years ago. This was during the 1970s, although the argument had little backing from scientists at the time. There was a slight period of cooling following the 1940's that was the cause of this prediction, possibly due to the smog created by the industry boom after world war 2 which actually shaded the earth from the sun. CO2 has a bit of a delay for warming since it takes time for heat to become trapped in the atmosphere, so at first the pollution actually briefly cooled the Earth. It's an interesting phenomenon and worth checking out.

14. Volcanoes and the ocean are by FAR larger sources of CO2 and other "greenhouse" gases. Many, many, many multiples of the amounts we exhaust.
The ocean has no mechanism by which to produce CO2, and volcanoes produce about 1% of CO2 emissions. However, plants produce most of the CO2 on the Earth, so this is a fair point. It is important to understand that the Earth has natural CO2 cycles that are balanced, so that each year, although a lot of CO2 is emitted, it is all reabsorbed. Adding a little extra will cause an increase each year as the level of CO2 increases beyond Earth's ability to compensate for it. Imagine you make $30,000 and spend $30,000 dollars a year exactly, and I ask you for $150 each year. It doesn't seem like much, but you'll be in debt pretty quick.

15. NASA was actually caught faking "warming" data. They simply copied September temperatures and submitted the same figures for October. They then claimed October was the hottest it's been in decades.

I am a scientist and i have been recording for 10 years now. I have done about 500 different graphs and projects on the computer and by hand on Temperature change. Well global warming is false..... Hate to bust everyone's bubbles, but its the truth. The temperature in the past 10 years has actually decreased by roughly 1.34 degree's Fahrenheit world wide. The ice caps are freezing almost 2x faster than average. According to the real graphs that all the scientist i worked with are saying that a Ice Age is coming and soon and this global warming nonsense is just a way to get our money and money is all they care about because I actually used to get paid by the government to say its real............ Your arguments are wrong. When carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere, it is evenly mixed with atmospheric gases. Additionally, carbon dioxide acts by ABSORBING infrared light being radiated BACK from the Earth's surface into space. The average lifetime for a carbon dioxide particle in the atmosphere is about 70 years. However, the rate at which we are adding carbon dioxide is exceeding the rate from which it is being removed by the oceans, trees, weathering, etc. This WITHOUT DOUBT causes global warming. For further understanding, check out the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, which is a very scary scenario in history that is similar to what we are doing right now to the atmosphere. Extreme weather events ARE predicted to be symptoms of global warming. This includes extreme snow days on occasion, but as a whole, the Earth is warming brah! It is warming even faster at the poles...
This is science which is NOT simple enough for seventh graders. It is obviously pretty difficult because it took climatologists over 150 years to begin to have a good understanding of how climate works. You should take a course on this subject matter. And be conscious of the environment!
I'm doing a debate on why global warming isn't happening. I completely agree that Al Gore is a total fake who's just trying to make more money for his gas guzzling cars but on the other hand global warming is happening... but that doesn't mean it's a true threat to the economy and Earth today. I am only in high school, but apparently I understand more of this than you. This is all stupid! How can you say we are not hurting the earth?! Record low temperatures also have everything to do with the warming of our atmosphere. It is a complicated process that has to do with the Gulf Stream and melting glaciers. Have you ever hiked up to a glacier? Probably not. That is also probably why you don't know how much they are receding.
On another note, if all of this were propaganda, what would organizations gain from it? Sustainable energy is important because non-sustainable energy sources are extremely bad for the environment, but not only that! They are ugly, dirty. They are running out. Do you think some corporation is trying to make a lot of money off it?

It is normal for Earth's temperature to vary. This is mainly due to sun's activity. There is no such thing as man-made global warming - that one's just a story used by governments and politicians to scare people and make big time money.

Great hub! I have never bought into this whole global warming thing. I saw Obama tell the miners that if they wanted to mine coal, to do it, but he would bankrupt them with fines for polluting the air. We have so many natural resources here and the government is not allowing us to use them. Therefore, we are leaning on the muslims for our oil. We are at their mercy because our on people lie to us.
